History comes alive at the museumWORDS/PHOTOS/JULIA WADE Kitted out in smart uniforms, glamourous refinery and attire of bygone eras, members of Mangawhai Museum and Historical Society [MMHS], some with deep family roots in the area, gave flesh and voice to local history at the ‘Live Night’ exhibition fundraiser on September 12. Visitors were treated to engaging stories of how people lived and toiled in days gone by, as well as ‘a great sausage sizzle’ and licensed bar, museum historian and MMHS leader Bev Ross says. “We were also entertained with wonderful piano music by a well-known pianist, Bill Jacques of Kaiwaka, who played from 4pm until near 6pm,” said Bev. “All who wished to dance to the music did so including Tanis, a charming Charleston dancer. The participants were all happy with the way the event went.” |
