Mangawhai Beach School puts the fun in fundraiser!WORDS/JULIA WADE Hundreds of local students proved that getting wet, wild and mud-spattered is one of the most enjoyable ways to raise thousands of dollars during Mangawhai Beach School’s Colour Fun Run on March 12. Getting drenched with a little help from the local fire brigade, and bombed by multi-coloured chalk dust, was a must for all children – plus a few teachers and parents – as they ran, walked, skipped and even cartwheeled around the school’s recently completed bike track which trails around the back playing field. Each syndicate, from juniors to intermediates, took to the track for an hour at a time with the event running from 9.30am to 1.30pm. Supported by a long list of local businesses, student sponsors donated online, and to date the event has raised $31,950 towards the school’s goal of upgrading the current swimming pool. Principal Aaron Kemp joined in the fun: “Wow what a day! A big thank you to all students who participated and parents, to all our sponsors and for the awesome fundraising team, we could not have done it without you!” 00 PHOTO/JULIA WADE 2, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 PHOTO/NINA GASTREICH 11, 12, 13 PHOTO/KATHIE ALCORN 15, 16, 17 PHOTO/JOSI GRITTEN |
