Escape the winter with Aotearoa SurfThe team from Aotearoa Surf are just back from seven nights in Canggu, Bali, on an amazing Surf and yoga retreat – a dreamy, affordable, tropical getaway experiencing some of the best surf breaks, food and yoga that Bali has to offer.
Aotearoa Surf’s Che Burnett said it was an experience of a lifetime. “We were joined by a small crew of locals from Mangawhai and Auckland, some who had never surfed before, others experienced beginners and some good surfers.” The Bali crew met up at the airport and all boarded together on direct flights to Denpasar. Accommodation was based in the heart of Canggu (pronounced chung-gu) where the rice-fields meet the beaches, one of Bali’s most happening towns. A once sleepy fishing village, it is now bustling with shops, bars, restaurants and of course, incredible surf breaks, but still has that traditional coastal village vibe. The retreat is designed for everyone, even if you don’t surf. Bali has consistent, year-round swell that offers incredible opportunities for all levels of surfing ability from a pumping selection of 3-6 foot waves for intermediate to advanced surfers and smaller waves for newbies and beginners. “The water is warm,” says Che. “No wetsuits needed!” For real beginners, poolside and tailored lessons are available to help gain confidence. For the more advanced, guides will take you to the best spots each day based on conditions, all organised and tailored to your ability. When not surfing, there’s beach time, yoga, massages, a day excursion to the cultural centre of Ubud experiencing the cooler highlands, tropical forests and traditional Balinese life and even some bar hopping around some of Canggu’s best nightlife. And the food is amazing. Che says other amazing adventures included exploring the sand and breaks of many different beaches and reefs, touring the villages our scooters, visiting forests and temples and taking in beachside sunsets with local BBQ and drinks. Join the crew at Aotearoa Surf on their next retreat. They would love to show you the magic of Bali and all it has to offer. Learn more at aotearoasurf.co.nz/bali-surf-retreat/ |
