Drug bust
Police made an unexpected drug bust recently after visiting a Brynderwyn property for an unrelated matter. Constable Dale Wewege says officers showed up at the address on July 11 to arrest the male occupant but found the man had fled. 
“On searching the house, we found a track that led through the bush and came across a 30 gram bag of methamphetamine,” he says. “The bag is currently being tested for fingerprints but we already have a good idea of who the owner is.”

Cove Rd crash
A serious crash on Cove Road could have ended tragically after a vehicle rolled and caught fire in the early hours of July 13. 
“Surprisingly and luckily, neither of the two occupants were seriously hurt,” Wewege says. “However the driver will be charged with careless driving, after admitting to falling asleep at the wheel.”

Drink driving
A large number of intoxicated drivers are still being caught on Mangawhai roads, despite the dangers of drinking and driving being well publicised. Besides the devastation caused by killing or injuring others or themselves by drinking and driving, police want to remind drivers of other potential consequences.
“A lot of the cars we stop with the random police checks in the area have a driver with a high reading, especially between the hours of knocking off work, around 5 and 6pm,” Constable Wewege says. “Remember if you’re breathalysed and read between 150 and 400, that’s a fine and demerit points, anything over that and you’re heading for court.”
