Mangawhai Zonta taking a stand against gender-based violence22 Nov, 2021 Thirty-five percent of women worldwide have experienced physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence. As part of the 16 Days of Activism – an international campaign starting on November 25 that aims to inspire action and end violence against women and girls around the world and in our own community – the Zonta Club of Mangawhai will be directing attention to this issue with a display of orange shoes along the golf club fence, and a presence at the Tavern Market on Saturday November 25. “As the world faces the Covid-19 pandemic, instances of gender-based violence are on a sharp increase,” says international president, Sharon Langenbeck. “Now, more than ever, it is essential that we work together to end this violence against women and girls.” Langenbeck says through the Zonta Says No campaign, Zonta clubs around the world are uniting to raise their voices to bring awareness to the issue. “We are fully invested in this campaign here in our own community too,” adds Mangawhai club president, Carolyn Miller. “We hope to bring this message home to all who live here. We are not immune by any means and we all need to be aware of this.” Zonta International is a leading global organisation of women empowering women worldwide through service and advocacy. More than 28,000 members in 63 countries work together to make gender equality a reality on a local, national and global level.
