Designers and artists, its almost tartan timeOrganisers are putting out a last call reminder for entries for the 2018 Waipu Museum Art ‘n Tartan Wearable Art Awards.
Contest and show entries must be in by Friday April 27. Although artworks don’t need to be finished until preliminary judging day on Sunday June 17, it is essential that entry forms are received by the end of the month. The contest is scheduled for July 20 and 21 in the Waipu Celtic Barn. Helen Frances has become production manager this year with her regular artistic director role taken over by Annie Newall and Jayden Rudolph who will share the responsibility of directing the show. Annie and Jayden have both been involved with Art ‘n Tartan for many years and promise a fresh new look to the event. The sellout wearable art event celebrates heritage, community, and creativity, using tartan as a symbol of connection – the bright thread in the greater plaid. The show opens with a presentation of all entries, weaving music, light and artwork into a dramatised performance of wearable art and entertainment. The second half is a traditional catwalk section with commentary and projected images, including detailed information about each artwork. Tickets for the ever-popular show go on sale in May and will be available from Eventfinda or direct from Waipu Museum. Competition entry forms can be downloaded from the museum website, waipumuseum.com. Entry is $25 for adults, $15 for students year 9-13, $10 children’s mask entries Years 1-8. Details of categories and special awards can be found on entry forms. |
