Car and bike show set to impressIf there’s one word we attach to things American it is ‘Big’. This also applies to American muscle cars, which will be on show at the Waipu Car and Bike Show on Waitangi weekend. Big and powerful has become even bigger and more powerful with Firebirds, Clubsports and Mustangs competing head-to-head in some of the most high-powered drag racing imaginable. But these are only one facet of the whole display which will make petrolheads and car lovers misty-eyed with amazement, with envy and even with nostalgia. Among the weird and wonderful with be the DUKW amphibious military vehicle plus other of its counterparts and a great range of custom and classic ladies bound to impress. The public are invited to vote for their choice of ‘best in show’. There are 14 different prize categories for entrants and spokesman Ron Cave reports “there has been a lot of interest from near and far with the promise of an even wider range of vehicles than last year.” Mussell fritters and lamb-on-a-spit should keep hunger at bay, a DJ will be on site to add light entertainment and the kids can amuse themselves on the bouncy castle or dodgems. “We’ve had tremendous support from sponsors in Waipu and Bream Bay,” says Ron “and profits will go to the local playcentre and a special project at Bream Bay College.” n WHAT: Waipu Car and Bike Show. WHERE: Caledonian Park, Waipu. WHEN: Sun Feb 5, 10am-2pm. CONTACT: Ron Cave, 021 992 445. RULES: No dogs, gang patches or alcohol. |
