Celebrate the weekend in the gardenWe never really got the typical Northland ‘Indian summer’ this year but our ‘extra mild’ autumn is proving a boon for gardeners, landscapers and builders with an extended season which is great for all outdoor activity.
The team at Mangawhai Landscape Supplies on Mangawhai Heads Road are throwing their gates open to the public over Queens Birthday weekend after filling up their yard with all manner of plants from native to exotic, flower or vegetable seedlings, indoor and outdoor, and all the medium needed to get things growing. New to gardening? MLS have watering systems, hand tools and all accessories or even a gift voucher for someone special. Whether it’s just a bag of compost you need or a trailer load of bark or river stones, MLS will have it and you can take it away in their free trailer or by the truckload. Round off your handiwork with pavers or stepping stones, or add that special finishing touch with pots or garden art from their new display shed. Their gabion baskets are also becoming popular. To make the job easier still, ask about their raised bed frames – your whole garden contained in a neat package for easy care and no bending. This is a great time to plant fruit trees so get your orders in and locally grown trees will be in stock by mid-June. Owner operator Julie Monaghan invites everyone wandering through the yard to enjoy a complimentary slice of pizza cooked in their own oven on site. Just imagine having your own pizza oven at home to entertain friends next summer. Mangawhai Landscape Supplies is a one-stop shop but there is lots to do and see. Make a date for the long weekend. |
