New winter coat for Kaiwaka library23 May, 2022
One of Kaiwaka’s iconic old buildings, Kaiwaka Library, is getting a long-overdue makeover, with a touch of fresh paint to match its neighbour, the Kaiwaka War Memorial Hall. Equally long-standing is Kaiwaka librarian and manager, Wendy Howard, who has overseen the facility and volunteers since 2008 and been a member of the library team since ‘at least 2003’. “The library is the old post office which was next door to the telephone exchange on the same property, and has been in this building for more than 20 years,” she says. “It has been painted only once before during this time, many years ago now.” The work is being carried out by Coast to Coast Painters and was made possible after library staff applied for funding from Kaipara District Council. “Many thanks to KDC for that,” says Wendy.
