Scene & Heard

Admitting your age and unable to cope with some of your chores? Our wonderful Cadet Unit is holding their Community Care Day on Sunday December 6 for clearing rubbish, gardens, hedgecutting, washing windows and minor repair jobs. A big success last year. Call Sandra Grayson on 431 4630.

Little piece of no-mans-land between Sand Bar restaurant and Secretz is about to have a makeover. A planned upgrade of levelling, paving, planters and tables will make this the ‘go to’ place later in the summer and great for alfresco diners.

Family and friends coming for Christmas? Drag them along to the biggest fun day of summer – the bowlers/non-bowlers day at The Club, December 28. Young and old, no experience necessary and dressing up is part of the fun. Plan your four-person team now. Plenty of food and beverages.

The house build by My Pad is almost complete on the corner of Moir Pt and Devon St. Another wonderful community project and gesture as it will be auctioned later in the summer with proceeds going to further completion of the Mangawhai Activity Zone.

The Mangawhai World Choir, so popular last year, are readying themselves for their annual performance. Under the guidance of Bert van Dijk, the group includes a lot of local Mums and Dads and delivers a delightful repertoire of song from all over the world. Circle the date now. Monday December 14 at the Museum, gold coin entry.

The important issue of Community safety is now being addressed and, after some upheaval, our marvellous Volunteer Fire Service is once again on the road to full operation. Heading into a forecast El Nino summer with the ever-present likelihood of grass fires and the like, residents can again be assured their safety is paramount.

Wendy, better known as ‘Cake-a-licious’ has recently excelled in Patisserie classes. Look out for some new delicacies being produced locally before too long.

Christmas Tree time again. Available from December 1 so get your order in to the St John Op Shop at the village.

Mangawhai/Kaiwaka business and residential directory is now published and has been delivered to boxholders within the free-calling area. However if you haven’t received yours, call in to Caroline at Mangawhai Books & Gifts and pick up your free copy or contact The Focus direct.
