Police SnippetsPolice say please report all crime Although some posts had appeared on local social media regarding tanks being emptied by brazen water theives, Mangawhai Police say to date they have only received one report of stolen water and would like to encourage the community to report any offences through the non-urgent 105 number which operates 24/7. “Recently members of the community have had crimes occur and have not reported to police,” senior constable Rob Cato says “We’ve only heard of these incidents through social media or word of mouth, and police cannot establish the information’s credibility. A lot of what is posted on social media is inaccurate, unconfirmed or untrue, so to assist police to deploy resources where they best needed, we encourage that all crime as well as suspicious activity should be reported.” Cato says local Police have been criticised recently for either not being available or not being in attendance at the Moir Street stations. However the community is best served he says when officers are being seen patrolling among the streets and towns and not inside the police station. “Mangawhai officers are committed to the community, to preventing crime and making Mangawhai a safe place.” To report all non-urgent crime please call ‘105’. For emergencies, still use 111. REPORTING/JULIA WADE |
