Kaipara libraries provide free digital servicesDargaville Library recently received new public computers.
Gone are the five old PC’s and in their place are a new colour printer, four Chrome stations and 12 Chromebooks with touch screens. Free 24-hour wifi is still available around the building. Dargaville Public Library is a partner in Aotearoa People’s Network Kaharoa (APNK). APNK is part of the National Library of New Zealand and works to provide free broadband internet services to communities around the country. Free internet and computing equipment in public libraries opens up the digital world to all people by removing barriers like cost and geography, giving people free access to information, just like a library does. Kaipara contributes just over $5000 per year to provide these services to residents, with the rest funded by the National Library. Kaipara District’s four community libraries at Paparoa, Maungaturoto, Kaiwaka and Mangawhai provide free wifi to their communities with funds from their Contract for Service grant with Council. If you need to access any type of information just stop into a Kaipara library, where traditional services as well as digital services are all free to Kaipara residents. |
