Kaipara to host first wool and fibre festival25 July, 2022
The inaugural Kaipara Wool and Fibre Festival will be held on August 14 at the Maungaturoto Country Club, a showcase for knitters, weavers, dyers, crocheters, crafters and lovers of fibre. The event will feature yarn from talented Indie yarn dyers, carded fibre creators and a selection of accessories and patterns. As well as yarn, you’ll see spinning wheels, weaving on a loom in action, learn about posture improvement techniques, or treat yourself to a hand and arm massage. Local wool and fibre traders from Kaiwaka, Paparoa, Tinopai, Matakohe, Whangarei, and Warkworth will feature, as well as some well-known yarn brands and designers from further afield. Confirmed vendors include Briar Patch, Dye Happy, Fibre2go, Gumtree Gully Alpacas, Happy-go-knitty, Harnie Hoolie's, Inky Fingers, Jumbuck Carding, Kerdon Alpaca, Lovells Yarns, Miro Yarns, Silverhill Alpacas, Stoney Creek Farm, Twisted Zister, and Yarnfloozy. Fibre fans will find plenty of variety for their projects all under one roof, including wool, alpaca, mohair and even hemp fibre. Maybe you prefer to spin your own? There will be a great selection of carded fibre. And if you want to get started on your next project without delay, there is a convenient yarn winding service. For those wanting to learn more, see live spinning and weaving in action. Or catch up with friends, sit, knit and natter in the onsite cafe. There will be plenty of space to unwind over a tea or coffee or just stitch the day away. n Save the date, August 14. Free entry. Plenty of parking, with family friendly disabled access. Located 90 minutes north of Auckland, an hour south of Whangarei – Maungaturoto Country Club, 84 Bickerstaffe Rd, Maungaturoto. |
