Orcas in the estuary

Being in the presence of nature’s majestic beauty is always a thrill, and on July 14 a number of lucky locals were at the right place, at the right time, to enjoy the company of a pod of eight orcas having a whale of a time in Mangawhai estuary.

Hunting stingray, splashing about and generally frollicking, perhaps the regal sea creatures had an inkling it was their special day as, quite randomly, their visit just happened to coincide with World Orca Day, the start of World Orca Week or WOW, a most apt acroynum.
