Fresh look for Art n TartanOnce again the wearable art show Art n Tartan will be held in the Waipu Celtic Barn. Since its beginning in 2010 Art n Tartan has flourished under the directorship of Helen Frances, whose vision for the event has seen it grow from strength to strength. Helen has now moved aside to handle the production side of the event and directors this year will be a collaboration between Waipu artist Annie Newall and dance and performance teacher Jayden Rudolph. Both have been previously involved in the production in one way or another. Annie and Jayden’s direction will bring a brand new look to the proceedings. Annie describes this year’s show as a showcase of wearable art with a contemporary theatrical performance. “The show continues to develop with the dramatic introduction of creative props, inspiring performance and choices of music,” she says. New categories this year have inspired fantastic creations from both local and national artists. ‘Scottish Surreal’ has attracted a great number of entries and the audience can look forward to a bizarre parade of ‘way out’ costumes where creators have allowed their fancy to take flight. ‘Our Nation, Our Place will pay homage to the many and varied peoples of Aotearoa, while ‘Illumination Creation’ will light up the stage in a dazzling whirlwind of brightness and movement. Art n Tartan 2018 will take place Friday July 20 at 8pm, and Saturday July 21 at 2pm and 8pm. Tickets are available now direct from Waipu Museum or Eventfinda, but hurry, they sell out fast. |
