Voluntary position available for Library HallBy Julia Wade
The dedicated group of volunteers responsible for keeping Mangawhai’s ‘grand old lady’, the Library Hall, looking refined are looking for an essential new member to join their team. Mangawhai Library Hall Committee (MLHC) have a vacancy for a Hall Hirer/Administration Person to be nominated at the groups AGM on March 13. “This is a voluntary position for a community-spirited person,” MLHC president Rosemary Browne says. “Responsibilities include taking phone bookings, checking emails, meeting prospective one-off hirers and sending invoices. They will be a valuable member of our supportive committee.” The role is highly important as the cost of maintaining and upgrading the historic 19th century building lies mainly on the hiring of the hall Browne says. “We are trying to upgrade all the time so that it’s attractive for hirers and we were recently successful to receive a grant from The Mangawhai Club, which will enable us to upgrade the stoves and fridge in the Hall Kitchen.” The Library Hall has a long history of community service and, when built in 1893, actually contained a library, hence the name. Over the years the facility has been used for a variety of events including funerals and agricultural shows as well as a movie theatre. These days the hall is regularly utilised for Saturday’s market, the Mangawhai Memo publication group, line dancing, ‘Keep Fit’ and yoga classes as well as one-off hires such as fundraising groups, weddings, shows and family celebrations. Mangawhai Library Hall Committee AGM will be held on March 13, 3pm in the Library Hall. If interested in joining the Library Hall committee please phone Rosemary Browne for more details on 0274 759 342 or 09 431 4744. |
