First screening for Mangawhai doco club

The environmental, economic and social issues the world is currently facing can feel too big and too overwhelming to be dealt with by individuals.

We encounter climate change, resource limits, economic downturn and social disconnection and an understandable response is that these issues can only be properly managed by our governments.

Living the Change, a new documentary filmed in New Zealand and released this month, explores solutions to the global crises we face today – solutions any one of us can be part of – through the inspiring stories of people pioneering change in their own lives and in their communities in order to live in a sustainable and regenerative way. Directors Jordan Osmond and Antoinette Wilson from Happen Films have brought together stories from their travels around Aotearoa, along with interviews with experts able to explain how we come to be where we are today.

From forest gardens to composting toilets, community supported agriculture to timebanking, Living the Change offers ways we can rethink our approach to how we live. The documentary explores key topics such as renewable energy, waste, food systems, economic issues and conscious consumption.

Self-proclaimed “opinionist” and television personality Te Radar calls Living The Change “a sumptuous looking film with a smorgasbord of people who give a damn, and who’re all trying to change the only world we have for the better.” Each and every one of us has the power to create change. Living the Change sets out to inspire us to do just that.

The film aims to generate discussion as widely and deeply as possible about how each of us views the future and our part in it. Mangawhai yoga teacher Glen Crofskey is hosting a screening of Living the Change at Tara Retreat as the first of a series of fortnightly documentaries exploring the environment, consciousness, the nature of reality and social issues.

Glen hopes the screenings will “bring locals together so we can expand our awareness together as a community.”

 Living The Change will be screened in the Tara Retreat Yoga Studio, 247 Tara Road at 8pm Wednesday April 4. Space will be limited so email Glen at tararetreat@gmail.com to book a spot. BYO bean bag. Entry will be koha.
