Magnificent Sevens bowl competition overBy Julia Wade
A group of Mangawhai women have recently bowled over stiff competition to take away a national title. The Sevens team from Mangawhai Women’s Bowling Club (MWBC) won the New Zealand Regional Inter-Club 1st Division Bowls Tournament held in Wellington on March 2. “Our team had to beat all Northland teams then the regional teams to get to the national tournament,” MWBC secretary, Erin Wildermoth said. “We are very proud of them.” MWBC president, Mona Guttenbeil, and over 60 women and men bowlers as well as family members, celebrated the teams success at a special afternoon high tea held at The Club. “It is a magnificent achievement for a Northland club,” Guttenbeil says. “They were the only Northland womens team competing at the finals and they won the National Sevens title. What great work.” Seven’s captain, Kris Wintle, responded thanking everyone who attended. “In particular, we’d like to t hank the club’s new manager, Joanne Keating, for organising the high tea along with her lady bowler assistants, and all the sponsors who supported us through the tournament.” The auspicious trophy will be proudly on display in a brand new glass cabinet, installed in The Club’s foyer, for all members and visitors to enjoy.
