Whats happening on our harbour?27 June, 2022
VOLUNTEERS WANTED: Dune planting is an essential part of maintaining and managing the harbour. Mangawhai Harbour Restoration Society (MHRS) is about to commence it’s annual planting of grass seedlings along the famous sand dunes on the Mangawhai spit. Over the years more than 100,000 plants have been added to the spit in order to minimise the erosion of sand. The plant life anchors the ground together, and has been a great success. The MHRS is calling for volunteers from the community to share in what is a unique and rewarding experience: A day on the dunes. Planting is set to commence from the first week of July, weather permitting. For registration of interest and for any questions contact Ken Rayward 0274 425 408 or ken@skinelementslimited.com |
