Worzels World - Its all a conspiricyThroughout history there have been many and various conspiracy theories. Guy Fawkes conspired to remove parliament by means other than voting. This conspiracy wasn't kept as secret as conspiracies are supposed to be, and consequently the conspiracy was foiled. Today people in many countries let off Chinese fireworks to celebrate the fact. In 1939 those that claimed Adolf Hitler was a megalomaniac intending to take over Europe were dismissed as crazy, until German tanks began rolling into Poland.
There are false conspiracy theories too. A recent example is the theory that the Trump election campaign colluded with Russia. In spite of a complete absence of evidence, this narrative was constantly repeated through mainstream media channels including our own taxpayer funded Radio New Zealand, which these days seems to source most of its world news from the highly dodgy CNN. Two years and 35 million US dollars later the Mueller Report showed it to be an excellent example of a crazy nut job conspiracy theory. After all, what could Russia possibly do that wasn’t already done by US campaign managers? If these examples show anything though, it is that it is best to err on the side of caution. Many past conspiracy theories have been proved and some disproved. However there are others for which the jury is still out. Did they really land on the moon or did Stanley Kubrick film it all in a Hollywood basement? Look up ‘chemtrails’ and you will find it dismissed as a baseless conspiracy theory that mistakes aircraft condensation trails for nefarious biological agents. Look up ‘geoengineering’ though and you will find much information about weather control, which includes spraying nano-particulates from aircraft. Some maintain the 5G network is not primarily so people can download films quicker but is for enabling real time personal surveillance. If I had a dollar for every conspiracy theory about the assassination of JFK I would be writing this by the pool while the maid prepares my lunch. However, it may well be that one of them is correct, but if so, which one? Was 9/11 an inside job? Are modern vaccines an honest attempt to immunise people against certain contagious diseases or are they a nasty time bomb of cancer-inducing compounds designed for population control? Does fluoride really prevent tooth decay or is it being used as a mental retardant to engineer a more compliant population? I could go on. Undoubtedly some of these theories will be true and others not. But which are which? That special interest groups want power over people is not a conspiracy theory. It is a fact. It is only how they go about it that is debatable. Those that wish to have their way in the world know that in order to control people it is necessary to control the information they receive. The first step is to own the media. Most mainstream media has already been bought and paid for by the ruling oligarchy. Other media outlets often simply repeat stories generated by others. We have seen the inadequacy of supposedly independent fact checkers too. True investigative reporters must act as their own fact checkers and this depends entirely on the integrity of the reporter. Sadly journalism, like politics, is also subject to the general moral malaise that has infected and afflicted the western world. It is not enough though to simply report fake news or put a spin on factual news. The real coup regarding deceiving the public is in choosing what not to report at all. The internet though, like the Mangawhai Focus, is home to independent news and entertainment sources who have not sold their souls to corporate falsehood and sensationalism. In order for a power hungry minority to progress their anti-democratic agenda, these independent voices must be discredited or closed down. As I write this there are purges under way within YouTube and Facebook to ban many alternative voices. No doubt some will be crazy nutters. Others though will be like those who questioned the official Iraqi weapons of mass destruction line that proved to be fake, phony and false, and led to the destruction of a country and the deaths of over a million people. Information is like any good or service available in the global market place. Since the beginning of time itself the proverb ‘caveat emptor’ (let the buyer beware) has applied as much to information as to anything else. As George W. Bush once tried so hard but so unsuccessfully to say: ‘Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me’. Sadly there are too many who are only too happy to be fooled and fooled again. This is a shame for us all. Feedback?
