World's largest skateboard returns to MAZ

This extraordinary 12-metre 800kg skateboard was originally built by the New Zealand Olympic Committee to travel New Zealand, showcasing the last Olympics held in Japan where skateboarding was a competitive event for the first time.

The impressive object of engineering parked up at Mangawhai Activity Zone [MAZ] in December 2021, the year before the games were held, and was held in awe by all who saw it. Recently the MAZ committee received a proposal offering them permanent ownership of ‘Big Board’, to become a major display element in the facility’s skate park area.

Understandably, the MAZ committee seized the opportunity, seeing it as both a wonderful feature and drawcard to the zone, as well as for Mangawhai. A plan on where to best locate the gigantic board and how it is to be displayed is currently being developed, with MAZ keen to have input from council to ensure this unique opportunity is fully utilised.
