Seeing a niche market to serve the local and growing horse and pony fraternity led Ruakaka horsewoman, Margie George, to set up Saddlery Direct providing feed, supplements, saddlery and clothing to horse people young and old, and all classes of mounts from pleasure riders to those in top competition.

Margie has a lifetime of working with horses and farm animals so has first-hand knowledge of essential industry requirements.

“I don’t like to get overly technical but it’s important to make sure everything works for the comfort and enjoyment of both horse and rider,” says Margie.

A big demand is already being filled through her range of feeds from Cambridge Grains, not previously available in the north, and ranges from broodmares to foals, yearlings and high power performers plus Equibee honey-based supplements necessary for all growth stages and medicinal products for muscle soreness and respiratory ailments.

Though she does not stock saddles (that’s really a specialised area says Margie) her harness range of bridles, girths and breastplates are smartly stitched and of top quality leather made in France under the Silver Crown label with all parts interchangeable and available individually if you don’t require a full bridle.

Total Saddle Fit pads and blankets make comfort for horse and rider and her range of Equitech high quality clothing runs from plaiting braids and stocks to smart and fashionable shirts, jackets, breeches and jodhpurs, designed by horse people for horse people. Looking good is feeling good. It’s a clear round performance.

Incidentals include buckets, brooms, rakes, forks, hay nets and gear bags, and gift vouchers are always good for birthdays, stocking fillers or saying ‘thanks’.

Delivery outside the area is no problem either same day or overnight.

With her commitment to the industry Margie can be found at most show venues, and also sponsors up-and-coming showjumping rider David Collett’s four horse team.
