Couple to share passion for danceCarla Rosseels and Owen Williams are starting up a term of social dancing classes, bringing their passion for Ballroom and Latin dance to Mangawhai every Thursday, offering a fun and exciting mix of dance styles. “We’ll begin with easier ones like Waltz, social Foxtrot, Cha-Cha and Merengue with the Tango to follow later on,” says Carla. Thrown into the mix will be Bachata, Rumba and Rock & Roll – starting easy and working up to more complex moves. But first and foremost, says Carla, they want you to have fun. Carla, who moved from Belgium to the area four years ago, loves many kinds of dances. When she was a child her father taught her to waltz. Later she got into fun Latin dances like Merengue, Bachata and Salsa. She also learned to dance the Argentine Tango, visiting there to get the real vibe of the dance. Owen moved to Mangawhai just a year ago. He started learning to dance Tango 20 years ago when the first teachers of Argentine Tango had arrived in New Zealand. Later he switched to Ballroom dance. The pair met each other in December at Bennett’s Fairy Fern Fundraising Christmas Concert and straight away performed an Argentine Tango, having so much fun they now want to share their dancing joy with the whole of Mangawhai. n WHAT: Ballroom & Latin Dance Classes. WHEN: Starting Thursday February 9, 7-8 pm. WHERE: Mangawhai Library Hall. COST: 10 week term, $90 ($10 per class, per person). First class free. VIBE: Carla and Owen will teach a range of dance styles. |
