Warkworth trio going BaroquePictured from left, performers Polly Sussex (baroque cello and gamba), Rita Paczian (mezzo and harpsichord), John Green (baroque oboe and oboe d’amore) combine to bring enthusiasts an afternoon of music entitled Delights Of The Soul. Their concert includes music by four of the leading German High Baroque composers – Bach, Handel, Telemann and Heinichen. Works to be performed include Telemann’s Triosonata in C Minor for oboe, gamba & continuo; a beautiful Siciliano from his Oboe d’amore concerto in A Major and his Fantasia in D Minor for Viola da Gamba; Bach’s Prelude and Fugue in C Major from The Well Tempered Clavier, and his aria Treues Echo from Cantata 213; one of Handel’s beautiful Nine German Arias and his secular cantata Venus & Adonis, and Heinichen’s Quadro for Oboe, Cello and Harpsichord. The performances of the Handel cantata, the Telemann Fantasia and the Heinichen Quadro are New Zealand premieres. “As one of our favourite composers we are very pleased to perform three of his compositions as our tribute to the ‘superstar composer’ of his era,” says Rita Paczian. “This year is the 250th anniversary of Telemann’s death.” n When: Sunday September 10 at 3pm.
