Firefighters suit up for charity challenge5 Sept, 2022
Local firefighters have climbed to dizzying heights in recent weeks, scaling 51 sets of stairs up the southern hemisphere’s tallest tower and raising a huge amount of money for a worthy cause with every one of their 1103 footsteps. Mangawhai volunteer firefighters Matt Williams, Michael Hayward, Neil McInnes, Hayden Wharfe, Tori Levet and Amy Robinson took on the 2022 Firefighter Sky Tower Challenge on August 20, each carrying 25kg of firefighting gear up the 328 metre building, and managing to collect an incredible $12,888 for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer NZ. Their fundraising efforts, including a sausage sizzle outside Mangawhai Heads Four Square which collected over $1000, added to the $1.3 million raised by the entire event. Congratulations firefighters, you did Mangawhai proud! – JULIA WADE / PHOTO FACEBOOK |
