Scouting for trashMangawhai’s roadsides will be a lot cleaner soon thanks to the hard work of a group of dedicated local youth.
Kaiwaka-Mangawhai Scouts are planning another day of picking up a mixture of kerbside rubbish, to raise much-needed funds to attend the 21st New Zealand Scout Jamboree in Blenheim later this year. Scout Leader Jenny Webb says the Scouts will be walking along the main stretch from Mangawhai Beach School to Mangawhai Heads on September 17 and 18. “There will be young people on the side of the road so if motorists could please drive carefully around this area around this time, thank you.” Jamborees offer adventure and challenges, a chance to learn life skills and practise leadership as well as teamwork. The event also provides an opportunity for Scouts from different regions to meet each other and form friendships.
