Commitment to environment and community recognisedTara Iti Golf Club is thrilled to announce another accolade – GEO Certified status. The certification is administered and assured by the Golf Environment Organisation (GEO), a not-for-profit group dedicated to sustainability in the golf industry.
The standard is independently verified and publicly reported, making it a credible and significant award. Opened in 2015 the Tom Doak-designed Tara Iti course has offered one of the world’s best golfing experiences and is currently ranked 11 in the world by Golf Digest. In the online report, GEO Accredited Verifier Kristine Kerr commented positively on the club’s approach to sustainability: “Tara Iti Golf Club is delivering a wide range of positive environmental measures including conservation, water management, supply chain, community, energy and waste management. The scale, level of effort and attention to detail given to the conservation of the coastal natural dune land was inspiring and the diligence taken to the ecological sensitive areas and archaeological ‘middens’ are well maintained by the facility. “The use of technology including the TORO system and measured field data to inform water management across the course was excellent to see. The value the club places and supports the local community and how it positively contributes to the local economy and employment is to be commended. The positive approach to environmental best practice is led by the general manager Matt Guzik, CCM, CCE and is strongly present throughout the club.” The course employs a full time ranger who manages wildlife and habitats. Reacting to the award, course superintendant CJ Kreuscher was pleased but not surprised by the accolade as he and his team, along with the club’s team, have been implementing such practices since the facility opened. “The team here relishes challenges and were delighted to receive recognition of all their efforts.” Matt Guzik added that he was very proud of the team and recognised the importance of the extra work on top of course development. “Going through the GEO system reinforced our strong views of best practice and that achieving the certification is a clear statement by the club of its long-term commitment to sustainability.” Tara Iti continues to work towards operating safely and harmoniously with its environment. |
