Dog registration due by end of AugustIt’s that time of year when your dog registrations are due. All dogs over the age of 12 weeks must be registered by August 31, 2018.
If your dog has been registered with Kaipara District Council previously, then a registration renewal notice will have been posted to the last recorded address on Council's records. Any dog owner who has not received their notice can contact Council to update their current address and contact details. Regulatory services manager, Dean Nuralli, says that Council do not want to add a 50 percent late payment penalty or any other infringement fee. He said they would rather talk with dog owners now to address any issues they may be facing with dog registrations. Fees cover 93 percent of the cost of Council’s Animal Management Services, this includes things like 24/7 animal control for matters relating to public safety, supply of a dog shelter for homeless or lost dogs, educational programmes encouraging responsible dog ownership, and patrol services to manage nuisance dogs. Council responded to nearly 1,300 dog-related callouts in the last year up to June 30, with 96 dogs impounded. Additional costs over and above what is contracted through Council’s service provider include summer patrols at Kai Iwi Lakes and extra patrolling in Dargaville township due to the number of nuisance dogs reported. In the last financial year this additional cost added $26,529 to Council’s animal management contract cost. Dog registration fees are $66 per non-working dog and $44 for working dogs if paid by August 31. All dogs in New Zealand are legally required to be registered, and microchipped. Working dogs are the exception for microchipping. Payments can be made online via Reg the Dog (regthedog.co.nz) or at Council's office in Dargaville or Mangawhai. |
