Information day for future volunteersLocals inspired to join the multitudes of volunteers within Mangawhai but unsure as to the ‘what, when and where’ will have an opportunity to check out all possibilities in one day.
On August 18, Mangawhai Club is hosting a Volunteer Open Day where a range of clubs, groups and associations will showcase their organisation and function, as well as the variety of work volunteers could sign up for. The Club’s manager, Joanne Keating, says the event is open to anyone who is interested in giving their time including children, families and current volunteers. “It’s an opportunity for all people including those who would like to get involved but perhaps can only give so many hours or prefer not to commit on a regular basis, a chance to see what it is out there in Mangawhai,” she says. “Some people may have a certain skill they would like to offer like barista work or gardening but are not sure where or who require their skills. The open day is so people can see what is available, make contact, sign up or leave their details.” Services on show include sport clubs, social services, environmental groups and retail charities. The Club will also provide a ‘grazing lunch’ to all who attend from 12pm. The Mangawhai Club Volunteer Open Day will be held on August 18, 10am-3pm at The Club, Molesworth Drive, Mangawhai Heads. - REPORTING / Julia Wade |
