Wondering how to fill in a wet and cold day in the school holidays? Maungaturoto’s Otamatea Repertory Theatre (ORT) is bringing another classic tale to the stage from July 4 to 19.

Bryce and Anne Cullen of Kaiwaka delivered home knitted poppies to Gallipoli on behalf of The Maungaturoto and Districts Rotary Club.

 

The Government-appointed flag committee met to take submissions. There were a few new designs submitted. Many were tongue-in-cheek, including one that depicted a Kiwi farting a rainbow – an inspired choice. If we are too humble to have the sun shining from between our national cheeks then surely a rainbow is a fine colourful alternative. 

 

Mangawhai’s recreation centre hummed last weekend with the buzz of glitz and glamour as the Casino Royale Charity evening attracted dozens of James Bond wannabe’s and their lovely ladies in Mangawhai’s ultimate gala night of the year.
 

 

Mangawhai Beach School students have been working hard raising funds for the Mangawhai Activity Zone. The school’s community problem group, run by teacher Andie Gore, has spent the term doing rubbish pickups and planting in the area.

 

The Hon Paul Swain has endorsed the discussion document released recently on options for modernising New Zea-land’s fire services.

Mr Swain wants people to have their say on how fire services should be managed and run to ensure they meet the needs of both urban and rural communities.

 

Ruth and Eve Whitley have both travelled to Nepal as Youth Advocates to experience the work of the Leprosy Mission and are committed to raising funds for a generator to supply the Mission’s hospital in Kathmandu.

 

Maungaturoto and Districts Rotary Club has had a leadership change. Mangawhai’s Bruce Nelder (pictured above) takes over the role from retiring president Jim Taylor, who says he is pleased to be handing the reigns over to such capable hands.

 

Self-taught guitarist Mollie Harvey of Rodney College took out the major prize in the solo/duo section of last week’s Northland Smokefree Rockquest regional finals for 2015.

On the bus again and out to Maungatapere to the Packard and Pioneer Museum. First up - lunch provided by The Office at Maungatapere. Those interested in heavy machinery were taken to the sheds out the back and got lost in bulldozers, army trucks and heavy machinery.
