with Kaiwaka-Mangawhai Ward Councillor Jonathan Larsen
This month’s Council briefing was held at Mangawhai and was very well attended by locals. The work programmes and funding for a number of Mangawhai projects were discussed.
Moir Street Intersections
The detailed design for two roundabouts has been completed, and will incorporate the shared path in this area. Council staff are liaising with business around timing of these works to minimise disruption.
Village to Heads Shared Path
The lack of proper, safe pedestrian access from the Village along Molesworth Drive past MAZ is an issue I have been pushing for some time now. The business case for the entire shared path route from Village to Heads has now been developed in collaboration with NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) and is awaiting approval. If approved, the current financial year’s works will include a 3.5m wide shared path from Mangawhai Central past MAZ as far as the ITM. The intention is to have three crossing points for safe access into Mangawhai Park. The proposal to have a footbridge installed beside the Tomarata Rd / Insley St bridge is also included in the overall application.
Wood Street revitalisation
Council has been successful in obtaining funding from the NZTA Innovating Streets pilot fund. Following on from the summer trial of a one-way system in the street, the grant will cover 90 percent of the costs of an ‘interim installation’. This will be used to observe and test changes in behaviour, potential safety issues, effects on the road network, and further refine the final design. Following consultation with residents, businesses and the public, the works are expected to be completed by the end of November.
