Tarren qualifies for Teen World Golf ChampsYoung Mangawhai golfer, Tarrin Rous, has qualified for the Teen World Golf Championship. Tarrin recently competed in the US Kids Golf Auckland Tour, a worldwide event run by US Kids Golf in America for players aged 6 to 18. Players are required to play at least four of the eight age group events and score 84 or less in at least one of them. Competing in the boys 13-14 division, Tarrin played all eight events – three prior to Christmas and five in January – at various Auckland courses, scoring 84 or less four times and finishing on top of the points table for his age division. Players with the most points in each age group qualify to enter the Teen World Championship at Pinehurst, USA, July 27-29. Winning the Auckland tour has also qualified him to compete in Australia May 4-6 representing New Zealand against the winners of the Australian US Kids Golf Tour. Given some plastic clubs by older brother Zane as a toddler has lead Tarrin into competitive golf. A junior member at Mangawhai Golf Club since he was 6-years-old he has won several junior competitions and titles and now competes regularly in men’s events, and selected for one of the Mangawhai men’s 36 hole pennant teams last year. Rous has also represented Northland at under-16 level. For now, though, he is turning his attention to his US adventure. “We have started fundraising to get Tarrin to the Sates in July and have been overwhelmed by the support from the members of the Mangawhai Golf Club,” says Mum Di Rous. “I think they are just as proud of him as we are.” n Help Tarrin on his way to the USA to represent NZ.
