Outward bound finds new recruitDue to a change in circumstances one of the latest recipients of the Mangawhai Club/Mangawhai Focus sponsored Outward Bound Scholarships is unable to take up the offer, leaving the way for Wellsford student Anja Hamelmann to join the next intake. Anja is a friend and schoolmate of Lachlan Ewing who attended the course earlier this year and according to Anja “couldn’t stop talking about his experience which was so much more than expected.” This enhanced her interest and enthusiasm and although it wasn’t necessarily on her ‘to do’ list she took the opportunity when offered with the result that she will now join fellow student Brooklyn Wilson for the January 2018 intake. Just graduated from Year 13 at Rodney College, Anja’s outdoor experiences include Duke of Edinburgh Awards and also a developmental trip on the tall ship, Spirit of Adventure. An avid sportswoman, Anja is a major player for the Mangawhai Football team, Northland Premiers and was a finalist in this year’s Kaipara Sports Awards. She will attend AUT next year to study physiotherapy, heading for a post grad course in muscular- skeletal development studies. We hope the Outward Bound experience will help her further in her career and life choices. Good luck Anja.
Anja will add Outward Bound to her list of outdoor developmental achievements. |
