Cames Road petition hoping to be signed, and sealed

7 Nov, 2022

thumbnail 21 MF-Cames1a-221Following the September 25 community meeting [Mangawhai Focus, Oct 3] where Mangawhai’s Cames Road residents discussed the safety of the pitted, potholed gravel bypass which links their homes, as well as the health impacts of constant airborne dust, organiser Dr Nima Maleki (pictured) has registered a petition to try and access funding for the sealing of Cames, Lawrence, and Devich Roads.

On the petition statement Nima says “we understand councils have been lobbying for this for two decades and despite yearly promises, speed reductions are the only change. Residents have health and safety concerns about the state of our roads. Cames Road is divided arbitrarily between two councils, we pay rates to Kaipara but Auckland is supposed to maintain sections of this road. We believe Auckland Council has no incitement to do a proper job and has neglected the road despite the status as a go-through route to Northland.”

The petition is to be forwarded to National MP Simeon Brown, who ‘has kindly accepted’ to present the signatured protest letter to Parliament.
