Ballet with a twist at Bream BayThe Bream Bay Ballet troupe, under the guidance of teacher Kristin Orr, is bringing the magic of the Christmas season to life with a New Zealand-themed Nutcracker Ballet.
Seventy-five dancers will warm hearts and dazzle with dynamic dancing and numerous surprises to keep the audience bouncing in their seats. The magical Christmas musical tapestry will be woven out of the traditional threads spun by composer Tchaikovsky but will also delight with added groovy beats. “There is the creative twist to our ballet,” says Kristin. “The Nutcracker is traditionally choreographed as a northern hemisphere ballet but in this Christmas show we will travel down from the snowflakes of the top of the world to the sunshine of the southern hemisphere.” To add to the Kiwi flavour the sweets will be New Zealand lollies such as milk bottles, glow hearts, minties, licorice allsorts, pineapple lumps, jelly beans and our favourite candy canes, truffles and candy floss. The costumes are lavish, full of bold colour, and with sequins galore. “Life is so much happier if you wear sequins!” Kristin exclaims. The moral of this Nutcracker ballet production is to pursue your dreams. “The biggest adventure you can take is to live the life of your dreams. If you can dream it you can do it,” she adds. All are invited to join Clara and her Nutcracker Prince on their magical Christmas Eve adventure as they battle the evil King Rat and travel through the glittering winter realm of the snowflakes to the sunshine of New Zealand where the Sugar Plum fairies entertain the pair with the magnificent dancing sweets. Bream Bay Ballet is extremely popular teaching 75 children and 7 adults with families coming from 11 local towns.
BIG DREAMS: Shynnese Tuki, Petra Currie, and Zara Jacobson have main roles in an upcoming ballet production. |
