Top coach for Wellsford junior golfersThe junior golf programme at Wellsford Golf Club received a huge boost recently with New Zealand’s only PGA Master Professional and former head coach of the China women’s national team, Gareth Winslow, taking on the coaching role at the club. Having been based overseas since 2002, Gareth worked in Malaysia, Germany and China before recently returning to New Zealand. Ironically, coaching at the Wellsford Golf Club is quite a return to his roots for Gareth, who was trained by Wellsford golfing legend Alex Bonnington, more than 20 years ago. During his coaching career, Gareth has helped turn a number of young golfers into tour professionals, several of which now make their living on the LPGA Tour in America. It’s his hope to continue to develop the youth in the area and he would love to see Wellsford become a hub in the North for golfing excellence. “I greatly appreciate the support of the Wellsford Golf Club and the opportunity to coach their junior golfers,” he says. “They’re a great group of people at the club and it’s a real pleasure to work with them. I look forward to seeing more and more Wellsford juniors putting golf on the map.” Junior training takes place at Wellsford Golf Club every Thursday afternoon at 4pm, but will take a break for a few weeks over the holiday period. For further information, Gareth can be contacted directly on 021 2023 154 or at garethwinslow@hotmail.com
