Givers and volunteers join forcesA generous offer by a local business was recently accepted by volunteers to the benefit of the wider community. Heath Worsfold of Rural Design offered 500 riparian plants free to the Mangawhai community if they could find a suitable site. An area on Black Swamp Road disturbed by machinery in the mangrove removal operation was identified. The call went out and a dozen riparian planters and Trackies got stuck in on a Saturday morning – all done! The harbour edge benefited to the tune of 400 oioi and 100 salt marsh ribbonwood and it didn’t cost a brass razoo. A big thanks to Rural Design and didicated planters. Pictured are, from left, Tom, Jane, Eric, and Terry – part of the volunteer planting team. |
