Storyteller breaking new groundWandering wordsmith and storyteller extraordinaire, Mary Kelleher, is back home in Mangawhai once again.
More recently she has taken her real life murals around the South Island displaying her ‘Story of a New Zealand Truck Driver’ and the historic Kaiapoi Mill to schools and libraries where they have been roundly applauded. She is currently working on ‘Manukau, the story of a New Zealand Harbour’ with her brainchild now growing into book form including crafted textile collage and also a music CD. Mary is now focussing on schools where her works are seen as interesting, informative and a great learning tool for pupils. She also received wide acclaim from National Radio interviewer Kate De Goldi who exclaimed: “I have never seen anything like this unique artform.” Fresh from last week’s Storytime Festival at KeriKeri, this weekend Mary will present her Handmade Histories in a half hour address at the Going West Book and Writers Festival at the Titirangi War Memorial Hall in West Auckland along with a weekend of poets, writers and historians. Mary’s presentation will take place on Sunday September 13 at 9am. Mary is but one of a number of published people from our local area and a local writers festival is mooted for later in the year in Mangawhai. Stay tuned.
