Q&A for deputy mayorDeputy mayor Peter Wethey (pictured) was opening guest speaker at the September meeting of the Mangawhai Combined Rebus Club. Deciding upon a question and answer session, Peter answered in a friendly and knowledgeable way, with one or two a little fired up about the terrible roads and other hot topics.
Second speaker was Marilyn Lees who regaled listeners with a family history that saw a relative sent to Australia as a convict – a workers rights compaigner lucky to be sentenced to transportation rather than being hanged! Her great, great, great grandfather stayed in Australia, married an Irish girl from Derry and the rest is Marilyn’s family history. David Foster inducted five new club members: Tricia Black, Mark Williams, Hugh and Robyn Fraser and Callum Masters. Next meeting is an October 17 bus trip to Whangarei’s Kiwi House and museum, lunch at the Town Basin and a jaunt up to Parihaka lookout. Meet at Mangawhai Bowling Club car park 8.45am for 9am departure. Contact David Foster 027 431 5005. |
