Cats get their paws on cash

Local felines residing at a nearby rescue hostel have just been awarded a large wad of cash to help with their health and wellbeing. On August 4, the minister of Internal Affairs (DIA) signed off on a $30,000 grant for Mangawhai’s Helping Paws, a volunteer-run charity organisation caring for hundreds of lost and abandoned cats and kittens.

Naturally founder Megan Denize ‘is over the moon’.

“It is the most amazing news! This much-needed funding will build two isolation rooms, one for incoming kittens and one for babies with cat flu,” she says.

“Each isolation room will be fitted with veterinary cages to reduce the spread of infection and make cleaning much easier, and will have its own wash station and separate air conditioning systems to ensure there is no transfer of airborne illnesses between rooms. They will also open into a new reception area and new front entrance which will allow us to microchip pets for members of the community without any contact with our rescued babies.
