Generous support for annual museum fundraiserJULIA WADE 8 Aug, 2022
People interested in supporting the extraordinary showcase of Mangawhai’s fascinating history and heritage, are welcome to attend a night of feasting and bidding to fund the cause. East Kaipara’s wonderful home of local history, Mangawhai Museum, is holding its fifth annual three-course dinner and auction fundraiser on August 20 at the Mangawhai Golf Club, the first event since 2019 due to Covid restrictions. Sponsored by Mike Pero Mangawhai, with real estate agent Alan Corkin turning auctioneer for the night, the local business community as well as companies from as far as Matakana, have got behind the fundraiser, generously donating a long list of goods, events and services for auction, fundraiser Lesley Bell says. “We’ve got Bennetts chocolates, pottery from Morris & James and Pipi Gallery, goodies for lads and ladies, gardening supplies, tools, surf lessons from Aotearoa Surf, a Sculptureum family pass, an aerial shoot from Elevated Media, and even a bronzed weta… so a nice variety of things.” The event brings in thousands of essential dollars vital to keep the facility running, Mangawhai Museum deputy chair Jo Naish says. “The funds raised are all used for operating costs including paying our manager, maintaining the grounds, building, rates, insurance, security, cleaning and IT as well as exhibitions and collections,” she says. “We cannot cover all our costs through admissions and grant funding alone so fundraising events such as the dinner are essential to our annual revenue.” n Tickets available from Mangawhai Museum or phone 431 4645. |
