Marauding dog strikes againFor the second time this year Pebblebrook resident Vicki Cox has been confronted by blood-spattered cages and dead animals, the result of a dog attack.
An errant dog from the area has wreaked havoc in a chook pen leaving behind half a dozen bodies mauled to death. This comes on the back of an attack on sheep and goats on the same property in March where the offending canine escaped through the denial of anyone to take any responsibility or remedial action. Frequent complaints about roaming dogs have been made in the past by neighbours in the valley which borders the Maranui Kiwi sanctuary, fearful that they will intrude and do damage within the conservation area. On this occasion a dog was seen and identified to the satisfaction of the Kaipara dog ranger who visited a nearby property and impounded a tan and white pit bull female. Dog control manager Keith Thompson told the Focus the investigation is ongoing but there are charges pending relating to the offences and at this point the owner of the dog is preparing to defend the animal in court. Until this happens, and any verdict is given, the dog will remain impounded awaiting its fate. ACTION: A culprit may have been found following latest attacks. |
