TV show win perfect timing

 

“Home solutions company HRV will help three families on TV One’s Our First Home add value to their houses by helping make them warm, dry and healthy.” So said the promo.

To encourage public participation the sponsors also collectively launched a competition for a home renovation package as the major prize.

Entitled the Our First Home ‘Show of Hands’ competition, entry was via an app by which viewers could download to vote for the family or team they thought did a great job each week. There were weekly prizes to be won along with a grand prize to the value of $6,500.

Mangawhai’s Sandra Grayson simply thought ‘why not?’, registered her name online and thought little more about it so was blown away when advised she had scooped the pool.

Among the prize package was a complete HRV water filtration system.

Ironically Sandra’s son Richard had just purchased his first home.

“It’s a real doer-upper in the true sense of the word,” says Sandra “and probably a two year project as he has to work to pay for renovations along the way, but this package will go a long way towards getting the job done and making a comfortable little bungalow.”

Brendon Fox, principal of Whangarei-based HRV Northland was pleased with the result.

“It was a nationwide competition so it was great to get a winner from our own service area,” he said.

The water filtration unit was valued at around $2,700.
