EV charge centre at The HubRemember when electric cars were just a figment of our imagination? Back then we had Scalextric rechargeable and remote control toy slot cars. Now, given the galloping advances of technology and the demand for cheaper running and environmental concerns, electric cars are a reality.
What was not so long ago perceived as a novelty is now a serious contender as motorists weigh up the pros and cons of owning the new age vehicles. Northpower has embraced the technology recognising that an electric vehicle will need regular charging for longer trips, especially around the north, so has installed an EV charge station outside Jaques Foodmarket in Kaiwaka last November. Now Mangawhai is to get similar treatment with an EV charge station to be installed at The Hub on Molesworth Drive at the Village (pictured). Northpower spokesman Steve MacMillan is pleased to be able to announce that the station should be in and operational in a couple of weeks. Northland tends to lag behind in some aspects but Mr MacMillan says the electric car facilities will be a further move to keep the north up with the most recent technological advances. - PHOTO/Google maps/Northpower |
