Families flock to open day

 

Showers weren’t enough to dampen the enthusiasm of members and visitors at the Mangawhai Golf Club open day on March 24.

The popular local club showcased its course and facilities to the wider community and attracted a good crowd who shared demonstrations, competitions, prizes and refreshments. 

A large group of members welcomed visitors – many with younger family members in tow – to the club's outstanding playing and social environment. Members of other Mangawhai community groups were in attendance to promote their own activities.

Organisers Geraldine Speed and Mike Howard provided the driving force and ensured all who came along were greeted and welcomed enthusiastically. 

For some it was the first time with a golf club in hand and they enjoyed the putting and chipping competitions, driving demonstrations and other activities including a very busy barbecue.

Youngsters made the most of the special treats, with the most excited of all being young Ziggy who won himself a brand new set of clubs – proud dad Cameron Head looking forward to being the father of a big money-winning professional in years to come.

Despite the rain the club felt the total experience was a great success for all and welcomes enquiries from any who were unable to attend.
