Hakaru Hall rocks outFeaturing a talented list of locals and special guests including Bent Copper, Rob Tuwhare, Totally Uked, Have You Heard, In the Mood, Hakaru Jam, Barely Legal and heavy rock band MSM, Hakaru Hall came alive with dancers and entertainers on July 24. They not only raised the roof but also collected over $1200 towards maintenance and future development of the early 20th century building. Organised by the Hakaru Hall committee, chair Dennis Reeve says ‘it was a good result’. An Auckland visitor who spent his time rocking hard to local metal band MSM, was pleasantly surprised by the quality of performers. Growing up in a small town he commented how good it was ‘to get taken back to his roots’ with all ages mixing together and bring a plate, adding ‘what an awesome community event, a real grassroots gig’. Pictured, talented four piece combo Barely Legal was a crowd favourite, mixing well-known tunes from Sublime and Blink 182 as well as their own originals. - REPORTING/JULIA WADE |
