Sports gear donations wanted for Tonga

Pre-loved sports items are currently being welcomed at Mangawhai Beach School (MBS) in an effort to help support the Tongan community after the devastating volcanic eruption and tsunami which struck earlier this year.

MBS is one of 15 schools nationwide taking part in the Tonga relief plan, ‘Blues Best Foot Forward’, which is focused on ‘encouraging and supporting normality’, by donating a container-load of good quality sports gear including shoes, boots and equipment from around the country to the South Pacific Island in June. The main target of the campaign is footwear to ensure Tongan children will not miss out on playing sports.

Presented to the school’s teachers and staff by MBS teacher Lance Coker, a big blue bin is parked in the school foyer, and already filling with goods. If interested in donating please drop items in before May 16.
