Tennis serves up smashing opening dayThe Mangawhai tennis committee enjoyed hosting local tennis players in the area at the opening day for the new season last Sunday. There was organised tennis, the ball machine was available and the traditional summer strawberries and cream were served. Three categories of membership are available this season: adults, juniors (which includes 16 weeks of coaching), and families. Members will receive a key for the season with an initial cost of $20 which gives access to the six courts out of club time. The club currently offers ladies tennis on a Monday and Wednesday morning from 9am to 11am, men’s tennis on a Monday night from 6pm, and a Thursday evening mixed team round robin tournament run over 6-8 weeks per round, depending on numbers. All are social and fun ways to play sport and meet local people. There is a coach available for adult tennis lessons and for the junior coaching sessions. Grant Van Dalsum also sells racquets and offers a service for restringing and replacing grips. To join the club and for more details see mangawhaitennis.co.nz, or visit Mangawhai Tennis Club at the domain in Moir St. |
