Ag Day defies the weatherIt doesn’t need to be a steaming hot day to have fun in Mangawhai and the Mangawhai Beach School (MBS) Ag Day 2015 proved the point.
Though organisers were initially apprehensive under darkening skies, the crowd kept rolling in and enjoyed the wide variety of activities with the best result: targets were met with around $30,000 raised. This year was all about showcasing the amazing talent of MBS students. The Intermediate Syndicate had the opportunity to run businesses by running their own activity stalls. With some fantastic ideas and lots of enthusiasm they not only planned but organised and ran the stalls on the day. The talents of MBS students were also showcased on the entertainment stage with annual Mangawhai's Got Talent winners performing to a very receptive audience. Every student in the school produced a piece of art for sale, making the art gallery a huge success. Calves and lambs are always a draw card for visitors with grooming, leading and calling skills on display. “This year the support from local businesses and community groups has been awesome and really helped add to the atmosphere on the day and help us reach our fundraising targets,” said staff member Mariska Glover. A true community event – sponsorship, donations of goods and services, displays, personal time – the school has offered a big vote of thanks to all parents, teachers and students who put hours of time and effort into another successful day.
