New professional to Waipu Natural HealthProlotherapy – also known as Proliferent or Injection Reconstruction Therapy – has been in use since the 1960s. It's purpose is to repair damaged ligaments, tendons and cartilage.
Dr Wayne McCarthy has been employing this method for 17 years to relieve pain and restore normal function of damaged joints. The effect is either permanent or at least long lasting. “We are extremely privileged to have Wayne McCarthy at our Waipu Clinic,” says principal Jan Van Der Lee. Dr McCarthy, a highly qualified naturopathic physician, spends his time working out of Environmental Health in Kamo and now Waipu, and is currently training for further procedures in Russia this month, but is taking appointments at Waipu Natural Health from November 28. One to six sessions are generally required with the most dramatic improvement often felt in the first procedure. Dextrose is the proliferating agent used. It irritates the damaged ligament causing it to grow and attach more firmly to bone. Then over 21 days it thickens, shortens and tightens, thus returning full strength and mobility. You'll know if you are a good candidate for Prolotherapy if you have all/any of the following: -- A joint that aches at night. -- All therapies help but the injury does not heal. -- Is the first part of the body to hurt when you work or work out. -- Pain in the morning, improves with movement, then hurts again later in the day as you tire. Common injuries treated are Rotator cuff, knees, elbows, lower back. However every joint can be improved by this method. The treatment is successful for new and old injuries. Once the ligament attachments are healed the associated musculature will strengthen thus promoting a full recovery in 90% of cases. Dr Wayne McCarthy ND is a Naturopathic Physician. He and his wife live in Waipu and this treatment is offered at Waipu Natural Health, 3 Cove Rd, Waipu, Clinic 432 1325, or DD 432 0854. <<ends>> <<caption>> Dr Wayne McCarthy ND |
